As the short days of winter approached and the temperatures in North Texas went south, my girlfriend and I started thinking about heading south too. For a vacation that is. While searching the web for places to soak our pale sun-deprived bodies, we kept finding advertisements for Cancun. Pictures showed sugary white sands gently sloping into warm and tranquil turquoise waters. And the rates for beachside 4 star hotels were not only affordable, but cheaper than the Super 8 down the street. It seemed like paradise, but one question kept popping into our heads, "is Cancun safe?"
